Fuel Octane

What type of fuel should I be running in my 76 2.0L fuel injection. I have been using 87 octane with ethanol and just put in a tank of 91 octane without ethanol. Car ran fine for about 10 miles then started running like crap. Wouldn't idle down and backfired a few time. Any thoughts?

The car was spec'ed for 91 RON, which is basically 87 AKI (which is what our pumps are labeled in here in the US).

Going to a higher-octane fuel should not cause any problems. It may be possible that the ethanol in the other fuel had been masking some other problem, but I think it still more likely that the poor running is a coincidence.

Two things to check if the idle is too high: Vacuum leaks and ignition timing. If you have any air leaks, the D-jet system will idle too high. Likewise, if the ignition timing gets advanced the idle will go up.
