914-6 oil tank ? (why not 911 tank ? )

Hi,

I still in the process to convert a 914 to 6 . (buying parts slowly )

One of the parts that sounds to me expensive is the oil tank.

Can please somebody tell me why not use a 911 oil tank that can be purchased of second hand and very affordable ?

This will be my first 911 engine, then I don´t have idea, I supose that a good reason exist. But I want to know it.

Because it doesn't fit very well, mostly. You can install it up in the front trunk, but that's about it. If you've got GT flares, you can "mostly" make it fit--but it's still something of a kludge.

Eduardo, please lets us know how you will install it, maybe with pictures. There a many 911 oil tank for sale on Ebay, even new ones, for under 50$. Is seem overkill to buy an original 914-6 one for over 500$ Thanks

You "can" use just about any oil tank you want, for a six conversion.

BUT, if you want it to fit (nicely) in the stock -6 location AND not have pickup and foaming/splashing issues from inadequate baffling, the factory tank is your best bet. I think certain folks have sold repro tanks over the years but I don't recall them being a whole ton cheaper than the real deal.

Some race cars even run a custom tank up front in the trunk. There's obviously more plumbing to be done, but it does help a little with weight distribution I guess.

My car is getting a factory tank. The oiling system is not one of those things that is worth f*ing up, IMHO.
