Parts help.

I bought some parts from P Parts last week and ran into some problems.

The NEW ball joint has a threaded stud and not a stud for the wedge bolt (which is on my car)

The tranny NEW seal looks nothing like the OEM seal I removed. The OEM seal has a small lip at the top (clutch end) that seals against a lip on the tranny housing.

I called P Parts and they said the ones I was sent, are correct for a 914. I have my doubts.

Can someone confirm this with me. I need these parts and wantt o orded the correct ones ASAP.

The 73+ 914s use the tapered wedge bolt on the balljoint. Email me the part number of yours and I'll cross-index it in my parts book. (Don't have the parts book with me here at my "day job".)

The seal may be an updated version. A couple of other people posted on that topic recently. (Were you one of them?)

The "01" version is listed as the correct part for all four-cylinder 914s starting in 1972... I haven't messed with the ball joints myself yet, so I'm not sure how you visually tell the difference between the early and late ones.

Does anyone around here know how you can tell?

There is a (small) chance that the early part got put in the late box.

I hope it's just a mix-up. The photo in the 914 parts page (under 914 ball joint) is the correct ball joint.

P Parts is going to call me today to sort this out. Either way I am sending the parts back. I hope we can get the correct parts on there way.

Thanks Dave
