rear window seal replacement, any tips?

I'm on a mission to replace all old, cracked seals and looking for previous experiences here-- Can anyone tell me how to best replace the rear window rubber seal (lower)? Thanks.

I just ordered new lower rear and front window seals. (from Pelican!) I think the rear is just pressed on. I don't think you have to remove the rear window. If your rear window is rattling, this would be the ideal time to fix it. When I removed the original it basically just fell apart, same with the front lower.

I'm an old VW guy, this is my first P-car. I'm amazed by how much parts cost. For what I spent on the two seals and the 19 front window chrome clips, I could have bought an entire seal replacement kit for a VW. Oh well, such is life!

I believe you pull the old one out upward, and simply shove the new one down into the channel. This is only for the seal across the front of the engine bay, though. If you're talking about trying to keep the rear window from rattling, then you've got more work to do...

I am told the window/engine bay seal is easier to replace with the window out, but is possible with the rear window in.

rear window/engine seal

It goes in easy -

you need to take the engine/deck lid off first.
before you remove it, mark on the hinge area with masking tape
in its "set location". Other wise youll be screwing around with its
alignment for quite a while once u take it off and try to put it back on. Its easier to adjust when its in its most open/upright possition.

The seal will just slide out of the channel. Maybe use a little hand lotion on the new 1 to slide it in easily.

If you need directions for the rear window, I know there are posts on it. do a search. If not send me a fax number and ill fax you the directions.
