Spindle hole for speedometer
 

Due to some mods I have done to my transaxle (my car is now a hybrid gas/electric vehicle) I can no longer use the mechanical speedometer connection. My question is--retaining my stock 4 bolt hubs, is there a front left driver's side spindle I can drop in so I can get the hole in spindle for driving the speedometer as in Beetles, etc? I would like to do this without going to 5 lug or messing with the right side...

Not that I know of--the spindles are all solid in our cars, and I am not aware of any that swap in from cars that use wheel-activated speedometers.

You might consider going electronic. There are GPS speedometers that allegedly work fairly well (though I've had enough trouble with GPS nav that I'm a bit suspicious) and are pretty much zero impact to install. Or you can use a later 911 electronic speedo that runs off a Hall-effect sensor. It's relatively easy to install one of those on an inboard CV joint, for instance. I'm not sure what the calibration of pulses to speed is, however.


Can you tell us more about the hybrid setup? It sounds like it could be pretty cool!
