71' Front Sway bar Install ?
I have a 71' 914 /4 I am restoring. I would like to add the factory sway bars, but I have notice there is no front mounting hole with the bolts, such as on my 912. The "U" tabs are on the a-arms, so this is a good start.
I am assuming there is a mounting kit / install kit(s) available to put this in. What is other folks experience with this install and what kit would I need to do it? Possibly a manufacture and part number  ? I am pretty sure this question has been aske many times and I searched the fourm before asking it, but there is way to many threads to shuffle through. I will watch the message board or youcan respond directly back to me. Thanks and this is a wonderful site!!! Thanks Len Ball |
Check the tech articles on the Pelican homepage - here is the link to the one you need.

Yep. Best to follow the tech article. I did it to my 72. Also had the A arm mounts already on the car. Called PP to ensure they understood what parts I needed and it all worked out fine. The other tech article you'll need is for the gas tank removal. The parts they sent me were all Weltmeister. New set of bushings for drop links and the bar itself. Also the triangle mounts that basically beef up the sheet metal you drill through. I bought the stock sway bar from forsale bb on this site. I found an angle grinder worked quicker than a dremel for hacking out the little bit of sheet metal under the gas tank.

With the right parts it is pretty straightforward. My 1972 didn't have the U-tabs. Drilling the A-arms to install them was the most harrowing part of the installation. The inner fender was pre-stamped with the outline of the triangular reinforcement piece so locating where to drill was easy.
BTW, consider replacing the fuel lines while the tank is out. It's a task is otherwise a pain to do. Steve |
