Jim Chambers & Craig Laughlin were just over here.
Jims 6er was runnin' foul, last I saw it at the AX, and I was gonna see what
I could do to make it run on 6 rather than 4. Fortunatley, by the time it got here, it was hitting on all 6 and all I had to do was offer free advice.

Anyhew, Craig & I were discussing Jim's finishing position and
decided that we should share the results. Note finisher # 23....
that pretty much says it all.

Your telling me a YUGO finished ahead of a 914-6, a 911, a 911S, a Pantera, and a 928?!?

No wonder Jim said his car was running on 4 cylinders - funny that it "magically" started running on all 6 before he got to your place! Talk about embarrassment!:p

Note - this was a tease and meant no harm. I used to autocross with a stock Omni that kicked butt - until he rolled it!

What is auto cross? I have heard alot about it on this board, but have know idea what it involves. Thanks

Picture a big parking lot. No, bigger. Now take out the light poles, curbs, etc.

Now add a "race course" oulined in traffic pylons, entirely inside the parking lot.

Add 3-5 dozen raving maniacs, all trying (one at a time) to drive a car as fast as humanly possible around that "race course". There are never two cars on the course at the same time, except when it can be set up such that they never get close to each other.

Stir vigorously. :)

Since the events are held in parking lots, the courses tend to be pretty small. They also tend to be rather windy, with a lot of pretty tight turns. Most are run in 2nd gear, though 914-4s with their low gearing wind up in 3rd gear pretty frequently. Most cars will never get over 70 MPH in an autoX.

To put it another way, it's the most fun you can have in a 914 unless you are very limber and quite an exhibitionist! ;) It's most of the thrills of racing, with almost none of the risks.

Not too bad for my first time out. :) The little /4 beat some sweet cars. Although, I'm still trying to figure out how that Neon did so well, #13 overall :confused:

Here's a hint.
If Mr Skinnerd was driving that Neon, it would prolly have been in the top 5.

We'll have to hook up a couple times next summer. I sprung for a trailer.

I'd offer to meet half way, but there's nuthin' but desert there.

That Spokane deal sounded gud.......mighty late in the year, tho.
God willin' and the creek don't rise, we can work somethin' out before that.

I plan on a couple trips to Spokane next summer. But I also want to make 2 trips to Portland ( all my family is there ). And 2 trips to Bremerton.
But they have 45 acres of new asphalt in Helena. With 9 events planned there too. TOOO many cones and not enough weekends.

Once you get a couple of autocrosses under your belt, find a Driver's Ed event in your area. You'll love it.

That'll give an AXer a woodie:D

On another note:

In them results, that was the 350ZX driver's first AX (I think).....Brian/Brain/Dave would know..Not too shabby....both him and the car. I don't think it was the "track" model, either.

"Green Weapon" was actually ulf......with a better driver...my ex-friend Chuck. He and I *may* co drive ulf next year.....trying to catch that 9eleben.

Jim don't feel too bad. If the course is short. I get whooped by a full race Datsun 110 ( I think my riding lawn mower has more HP ). He just drives FULL throttle. Using the throttle to steer.
And me 7 events. Him 5 years.

Yon't feel too bad. That "Yugo" is owned by a fellow that used to AutoX regularly and as JP noted, not your ordinary Yugo. The scary part is that the driver is "rusty" since he hasn't done this in few years. I don't think I'll invite him back.
