source for used body panels?

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a source for used panels. I just bought a 1975 914 that has spent it's life in the Northeast. It's in surprisingly good shape, but there are some rust issues. I'm looking for a yard in CA or the southwest that has 914 shells and would cut off parts for me ~ Something like 2002AD for those of you that are into the BMW 2002!

Basically, I'm looking for a couple of quarter panels and rockers, etc. I know you will all say that if it's rusty to part it out. Before you say that, give me a few days to get digital pics up and I hope you'll agree this car is worth saving.

I'm new to this 914 thing, so I appreciate your candor about vendors.

Thanks guys!

David

Dave, you might try PartsHeaven out in Hayward, CA.

Hey Dave,

Keep your eyes open on this BBS and (if you haven't already) subscribe to the 914 list at RennList

Those mad califonians have pretty regular "sawzall" parties, where the gather to cut up a rust free teener just because they have nothing better to do :D

Usually you can send them your requests for parts and get 'em cheap

Cheers,

Jeroen

where can I find some fiberglass replacement body parts? I'm trying to lighten my car as much as I can.

Check with Brad at All914.com . They have sawzall parties from what I hear, so they should have some parts available.

used body parts...

try "easy automotive" in the bay area (oakland?). when my 914 got rear ended the body shop got a rear clip and trunk from them. I think it's a porsche only junkyard. thought not sure.

for fiberglass parts...

might want to try http://www.americaninternationalracing.com/

For fiberglass you might also try GT-Racing in Colorado. Quality is excellent and they are very nice folks.

Try this site. It belongs to a friend of mine that buys 914's from all over the place and parts then out. Just email him.

EASY (European Auto Salvage Yard) is in Emeryville CA. Porsche specialty yard, prices tend to be a bit cheaper than Partsheaven. I think they have a website but I don't remember what it is. (Do a Google search if you want to see it.) High Performance House in Redwood City CA is a 914 specialty shop; it has three floors of warehouse packed solid with (almost all) 914 parts. You can't hardly even walk through the place, it's packed so full. Prices tend to be higher than EASY or PH. All914 (dotcom) is affiliated with them to at least some extent.

Then again, you could just pester Brad or Mueller or Z or Don or Glen or... Put in a list of parts for the next Sawzall party. Those tend to be even cheaper than the scrapyards, because they are just people getting rid of a chassis and not people trying to make a living.

Its funny. It took 5 replies to this guy before somebody actually said anything about us cutting up cars and sending parts out for the cost of shipping.

Tough crowd. I'll try harder to let people know we have steel.

Humm. Friends that wont receive Christmas cards this year;

Derek
Jeroen
Terrance

Thanks DD

Hmm, what are you talking about Brad? I mentioned you as a source. Recheck my post, you may have misses something

derek_sf 10-28-2002 08:55 PM

hah, I didn't want to obligate you to something and then get yelled at! I know you're a busy guy, I think I learned my lesson with you already. can I please have my xmas card?

seriously, I know from experience what a pain it is to cut those cars up to hand out free parts. I cut the front clip off mine the other day and it was not fun.

Brad Roberts 10-28-2002 09:48 PM

Just giving you guy's hell.

I have several large chunks that need to go away (I dont really want to send them to the recycler)

Nice try Terrance..LOL Did you not like the fiberglass on Bontempi's car ?? I think he gets 200$ a corner.

Brad,

I sent you an email. Thanks!

David

hehe, I liked it, but my car needs to be somewhat streetable so I can drive to the track if the trailer isn't available.

How'd you do this weekend? I thought I saw you, but wasn't sure. my mind was on some racing action and a midterm to study for. :(

Hey Brad,

Scrrrrw you!

[insert finger flippin' smiley here]

Hey Brad,

Just wondering if you got my email? I've been out of town for a couple of days and my hotmail account got swamped. If you tried to email me and it got kicked back...I apologize.

I'd like to talk to you about those body parts.

Thanks again!

David

Brad,

Just sent you another email through the PP service. I don't have your email address and it's not listed in your profile. I had to use the pp email service. Hope it works.
