914-6 conversion oil line questions
 

Ok so I have 73 914 with a 3.0, using a factory oil tank, lines, 914-6 cooler. I am looking for a threaded connection to weld onto the stock 3.0 hard oil line. I was going to cut off the 90 degree bend on the hard line and weld up a fitting to connect a stock 914-6 oil line (not the oil cooler line, the other one). I think the fitting I need is around 29 or 30mm. It should be steel so I can weld it onto the steel engine hardline. Anyone have any suggestions? Also can anyone recomend a place to buy quality headers for a reasonable price. Thanks for any help.

I *think* I have the fitting's laying around here (in steel). We normally tig this stuff. How do you plan to have it welded ??

I also have a factory 6 hard line you could use.

This sounds like another reason why I should be making a -6 hard line for conversion people.

Do it Brad, Make the Hard Line. I'll need one for the 3.2 conversion. (still looking for an oil tank though).

Is this the line that runs from the motor oil exit side to a oil cooler or back to the tank if no oil cooler??? If so, I have taken a stock 911 line and then cut it in two as it makes a 90 degree turn twd the driver's side. Then, had a shop TIG on a 90 AN 12 fitting in the other direction so the oil lines to the oil coolers could run under the passenger side rockers using SS flex Aeroquip lines.

At some point, you may want to add one of these.
The set-up may vary, but hard lines make it more difficult.
If the thermostat is floating (not solidly mounted) a hard line is OK. If it is mounted, some flexibility in the lines is advisable.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads/thermohookup.jpg

While we're on the subject of colors, what'd you paint your engine bay, console and lower sections with JP? Was your car originally white?

Not white, light gray. The car was/is green. I like a light color so's to keep an eye on "things".....always searching for cracks. ulf leads a hard life.

Brad:
White, not yellow.....it's the freaking camera.....under the car with a flash.....shop lighting drives the camera bonkers.

Bilsteins still in. The trailer is bout done and I have to move the car to get the trailer out.....yada...I'll get to it.
Do I have them offset strut mounts coming? I vaguely recall a phone conversation.........

I'm at SSI (today) Let me see if I can get them shipped out. Shipping and me will get along better now that I have a real shipping/receiving area.

Is it plain ole paint or something like POR15?

It's plain old paint.
The areas in the pic were sandblasted (one of my uglier projects)to bare metal, etch primered and plain old paint.
I had previously seam welded everything from the firewall to the trans mount (one of my more painful projects)......ain't this stuff fun?:rolleyes:

The factory welding on/around the suspension consoles was really s****y......where they bothered to weld. I really didn't plan to do all this, but when I saw those welds...... things sort of took on a life of their own.:confused:
