Type IV bench top engine stands
 

1. Will the standard VW bolt-to-the bench engine stand fit the Type IV bolt pattern?

2. Aircooled.net's is $39.95 and CB Perforance "heavy duty" model is $74.95. Does anyone know if there is a real differance in these two?

I am currently using one of the VW bench stands in my shed.. works great. It is a little flimsy but it does work... I bet the HD one would be better.

my guess is that Type IV vw is the same as Type IV Porsche. ;)

I have been busy with the family... two kids makes the schedule a little unpredictable. I have also been working on a web site for Dave White Autosport... that has kept me busy.

I did get to the Suncoast Bug Jam last weekend... I only saw two other 914s one of which I think is the car a friend of mine used to own.. lots of nice bugs though...

I wanted to go to the Bug Jam but I bought a friend's 2.0 and we dropped it on Sunday. Now I'm tearing it down, that's why I asked the question about the engine stand. I may just go down to Fisher's Buggies and get a engine stand.

Yes a standard Type I stand will fit on a Type IV case. I have one that I've usd for years for Type I motors, I just took a 1.8 Type IV off of the same stand last night. Whatever you buy make sure that the setup for stopping the stand from rotating is strong, mine was not and I had to fix it.

I've seen them that have a bolt with a rod welded to it to make a t-handle to tighten down on the rotating piece. Is this what you mean? I can always rig up a pin to hold it where I want it.

I'm sure he can. All he has to do is look at his finances to be reminded of how....

(Funny what buying a large interest in a good-sized company will do to things like your savings account...)

It's more the quality of the nut and t-handle. I used the same setup, but I welded on a really good quality nut and just used a good bolt and a wrench. The best thing is to weld your own stand, but not always an option.
