2.0 bus heads
 

Found some heads on EvilBay. Will they work and/or are they the same? They're from a 78-78 bus part #022 101 372G. The listing gives the valve sizes. They seem rather cheap (inexpensive) so I'm inclined to think they won't do the job.

The heads will work--but bus heads have tiny valves. Since these heads come without valves, you could have bigger ones installed.
You will need to send them off anyway for rebuild.

you will need 1.7/1.8 cylinder tins as well, as the 2.0 914 had a different plug angle, its all by its self.

I have a chance to pick up some 2.0 P & C's. Was thinkin' on putting those on my 1.7 case and doing the bus heads. Am I money ahead doing this or is buying a 2.0 better?

Money and hp ahead buying a good used 2.0L motor. 2.0L p&c's will cost you $450 plus the rebuilding of the bus heads $200 each so you are at $850 and havent touched the bottem end of the motor. You might have 80hp with this set up.
For around $1000 you can find a good used 2.0L that is 95hp as it has the good heads.

The only thing is that most old 2L engines that have come out of cars are probably a little tired. I think it would be rare to find a totally fresh 2L engine that came out for a conversion.

Regarding these heads. Are we sure they are bus heads? I thought bus heads had different exhaust ports?

All my research indicates that 2L heads are the way to go if you are looking for more HP. I'd like to build a nice 2056 andI've been looking for a cheap way out too on heads but haven't found one. Brad tells me that if install 2L heads on a 1.7 or 1.8 you'll really see it wake up and that plug position and bigger valves of the 2L head is what makes all the difference.

they're not the 914 heads, as they would have 3 studs, not the 4 shown.

Most 2.0 Bus heads have the regular oval ports. The very late ones have the "square" ports, which do not fit our exhausts.

However, they have a different gasket that is supposed to seal better than the copper ring we use, and they evidently flow better than our exhaust ports do. (Contrary to what Kap'n Krusty has said.)

It basically says that these 2.0L bus heads are the same as 914 1.8L heads though the bus heads have smaller valves.

It seems like the best way to go for a cheap rebuild on a 914 would be 1.8L heads.

I have a 2.0 motor for sale....with heads but they need work
(big hole in one, but it's fixable, damn drill, LOL)

Block is a GA case, heads are smog heads with air injection ports.

As far as I know, nothing wrong with motor, just needs a rebuild
(oh, and the case is blue, don't know why???)

Sheetmetal and everything, heck, I'll even throw in a set of used but good and useble 2.0 P/C's with about 10k miles on 'em.

Jon Watts has a set of heads that I believe he'll let go for not too high a price.
