Steering wheel position

The 914 is my favorite car ever except for one thing. I cant get into a position where the steering wheel is close enough without my legs being bound up.
Is it possible to somehow use a steering wheel adapter, tap some new holes, and then use that as a spacer?
My arms thank you for any help
Dwayne

Same problem here. I 'resolved' it with a Momo steering wheel and spacer. Problem is, the Momo are smaller (350mm) and block the view of the gauges (and require a tad more heft to use). There are 380mm Momo wheels but they are stoooopid expensive (like $3000 used). The gauge-blocking issue is partially resolved with a JWest eccentric.

I've seen references to spacers that go between the stock wheel and its hub, but it requires drilling and pressing out the rivets and building it up, it's not bolt-on.

I expect that there will be some work required. I was just wondering if there was enough meat on the adaptor to allow for drilling some new holes and bolt the stock wheel to it. I want a fairly nice appearance.
