looking for opinion

I was removing rust from the rear shiftrod in preparation for painting. and starting liking the bare metal look. So what do you guys think? which do you think would look best, painted black as original, or clearcoating the bare metal? there is a VHT clearcoat so it should hold up to the conditions of the engine compartment. the pics dont do it justice, as the curves impart shadows, but the rod looks nice and shiny and uniform.

some pics

Without commenting on functionality or durability....it looks kind of cool. But it'll look a lot less shiny once some oil and grease end up on it.

Also...best of luck to the Nighthawks.

Jimbeaux911, it should. I'm thinking of doing the front sway bar items and the peddle cluster with clear coat. Same deal, cleaned up all the parts and the bare metal looks great. Best, Mark

You must not be putting a Type 4 in there then. Or at least plan on never running it

thank Emo, nice to hear I am not the only one!

and navy, it will have oil, but just not yet! and hopefully, I can seal it up nice enough it wont leak like the olden days. We have better materials now! a well sealed engine, should not leak at all!

It will be under the car, and unless you park it over a mirror you will never see it unless you're working on the car. And it'll collect road grime as well as any oil or grease that leaks out.

That said, do whatever you want with it. I wouldn't leave it bare (corrosion is not your friend!) but anything that protects it would be cool with me. Heck, make it neon pink!

Have you tried the clear coat yet Jim. save some before and after pictures. I'm still about a month away from finishing my bear metal. Mark

I did clear coat it with VHT engine paint. it dulled the shine a bit, but I am happy with the finished product.

you can get a "chrome' powder coat color on that thing, if that's your thing.

I prefer the stock colors on mine, mine is black. To each their own.

I just did the Peddle cluster, cleaned, wire wheeled and clear coated. Seemed to work good, again this is on the inside of car, not to much abuse. Mark
