Does anyone know this car from California?

I was looking at this car today (still with original Cal plates)
Anyone know the history of the car? whether it is a genuine car?
I know 911's but am considering buying a 914 as 911's just getting too expensive + like the style of the 914.
Any help appreciated
Thanks
Ben

USED PORSCHE 914 S 2000 Lymington Hampshire[gallery]/2/

concerned whether it has been re fitted with a 2.0l van engine as I understand it happens a lot with these cars and this model year had 1.7l typically?

Alternatively for much more money:

GMUND Cars: Porsche 914 1.7

This may be a better car from a more reputable dealer and with an engine rebuild

There are no shots of the top side of the engine of the red one, so I cannot tell what engine has been fitted. It would have originally been a 1.7 liter, though. There are lots of ways to get a "2 liter" motor, ranging from bolting on oversized pistons and cylinders (to get to 1911cc), to swapping in a Bus motor, to swapping in a real 2.0 914 motor.

The green car does look pretty. Again, no shots of the engine bay at all.

One of the most important things to check for in a 914 is rust--and I don't mean obvious rust on the exterior surface, I mean rust in the structural parts of the car. If you can, contact someone local with 914 experience (I think Johannes over on 914world is also in France?) and have them look at the car with you or for you.

Mechanical stuff can all be sorted. Structural rot is generally a much larger problem.
