Rear axle question

so I just installed my first ever 914 engine! I put the engine and tranny in as one unit. now I am faced with hooking up the rear axles. The CV joints on each side are so tight, that it seems like I should loosen up the tranny mounting bolts and slide the tranny to one side as I hook up the CV joint on the other side of the tranny. Anyone with experience can help me decide if this is a good approach or not?

Thanks in advance!

Jim

The CV joints should have some "plunge" to them, so you can move the axle outward and then move the inner CV outward as well. That should give you plenty of room to get them into place and bolted up.

Did you do anything to the CV joints, like re-pack them? It is easy to put them together wrong so that they lock up. If you took them apart, double check that.

hmmm I thought I posted a reply, but its not here.

Didnt take the CVs apart, but I bought the car in pieces so maybe the PO did. so need to check on that for sure.

Otherwise, it sounds like I need to push the axle out with a bit more force. I always forget to use the force. :P

THanks for the help!
