Question Door latches -914

I just cleaned up both doors interior door handles, exterior handles, and the locking mechanism (latch). Both doors were not opening smoothly because of 42 years of grime. I've cleaned them thoroughly and they are not working great. Should I grease the locking mechanism before installing?

I would. Specifically, I'd lightly grease any surfaces that rub together. Those door latches / locks have several spots where things rub together like the actuator cam. Those get old and brittle and are prone to breaking if not moving freely. 914Rubber makes a nice little repair kit: Door handle repair kit
