Fuel Pump
I have seen this topic discussed here before but was unclear on the answer. Anyhow, my son has a '74 1.8 that is not running. Local independent Porsche shop says it is the fuel pump. There is a huge price difference between the 1 for 74 and the 1 for 75. Are they interchangeable? "Expert" "thinks" it will work. I have to find you guys are way more reliable than the "experts". So what do you all think?

Should be the same....as long as it is the 75 1.8 fuel pump.

Where is the fuel pump located? If it's up front under the gas tank, it could be as simple as a bad ground connection. When Porsche moved the pump up there, they kinda "band-aid"ed it with a quick disconnect spot welded to the body. Problem is, the disconnect is steel and corrodes.
