Allrighty Mighty Fine, I'm sure you are all plenty sick of me.

Here is the deal 1975 -4 2.0.

been sitting for about 12 years, replaced hoses and cleaned tank.

We have injector pulse on all 4 as checked with noid.

We have fuel pressure and good volume (I've got to put a gauge on it to know for sure, BMW experience tells me it has got plenty.)

We have spark and engine is in static time (#1 at TDC compression and distributor pointing at # 1)

Engine will run if you introduce starting fluid or fuel through the throttle body, but not unless.

Pulled the left side injector rail and sat it in a cup, no fuel when cranking.

I diagnose bad injectors? (But all 4?)

Any way to clean them?

If the noid light shows pulses, and you've got pressure but no flow, then the injectors are frozen. I'm sure you know, they should click for each pulse. No click, no go.

You might want to try to clean them yourself, I'd soak the tips (pintels) in injector cleaner, and pour more of it into them and let it sit for a few hours. The fuel varnish is likely sticking them closed. Be very gentle in freeing them. If you're unsuccessful, you could have them professionally cleaned, they're probably OK.

That was what I was thinking.

No click by the way, but I wasn't sure I'd be able to actually hear them.

Is there any readily available equivalent injector? (and does anyone have the flow rate in lbs.)

Ford injectors 14 lb/hr (grey) 19lb/hr (orange) and 24lb/hr (blue) (Green would be 36lb/hr I think)

I also assume that submerging the entire injector in cleaner will not hurt it?

I used an old lionel train transformer to open & clean mine. The transformer had the rheostat for going forward or backward slow or fast. Hooked it up to a meter for the DC side of the transformer and dialed in 2.3 volts. When I attached the injector lead to the injector it clicked open and I could squirt cleaner through it. I've been told that a 9V battery will do the same.

None of them budged with a 9v battery.

If nothing else, you can turn the ignition to "on", then go back to the engine bay and open the throttle up by hand. This should trigger the "acceleration pulses", which should make the injectors click. It'll sound like a rattle if you open the throttle quickly.

Note that if you do this, it opens only one injector group (1&3 or 2&4). You need to nudge the engine a bit to get the dizzy to move and for the other trigger contact point to close, to get the second group to fire.

O.K. they soaked over night. Still nothing with a 9V battery.

All read 2.2 ohmes, Good?

Thoughts,

1) continue to soak in injector cleaner?

2) Switch to PB Blaster thinking that corrosion has attacked the pintle?

These are 019 injectors and I have a set of 038 but I have to go get them and I'm not certain they are any better (condition or other wise).

i've had a little success in freeing the tip by pressing directly on the tip with a suitable tool (not too sharp, small enough to fit into space) When it's free you can just feel it move against spring pressure. If you can get the tip free, then figure a way to go backwards thru the injector to flush out the bad stuff.

Update.

After goeing and getting the other injectors (-038's) and blowing the dirt dobber nest out of the attached rubber lines, :eek: I soaked them for about 30 minutes in PB Blaster before appling power to them. They all worked and the car now runs !!!!

I'm going to soak the older injetoros for another day or two and see if I can free them possibly using harflex's method, and store them for extras.

Jim Thorusen, who used to contribute around here a lot, found that his injectors failed (died) when he cleaned them with carb cleaner and let them sit that way for a while. I think he checked them after several weeks. He recommended further cleaning of the injector with gasoline, since they are built to stand up to gas, before storing them for any amount of time.

Not sure if something like WD-40 would work as well or not.

O.K. I've got 2 of the 4 working. I'm thinking once they finis soaking in the concotion of PB Blaster and FI cleaner (the stuff intended for the gas tank) blow then out and fill with pb blaster for storage?

Thoughts?

i like diesel fuel because it's cheap and oily

Sure will be glad when you get that car going!!! With the technical experts around here it took me 2 months before I finally got mine down the road. as a side note: Just waxed my wife in her 94 Explorer. Hey it's a start. from a stop light. and then from a rolling start of 60MPH.

I wonder what these people could do with your injectors (and mine!)

I had success doing my own with an ultrasonic (jewelry) cleaner and some windex. See this thread for more.

hmm, I promise I searched before posting and I didn't find that one.

Where does one get a jewelry cleaner and are they cheap? Dare I say does wal-mart have them?

I'm afraid I can't help much on price. I got mine from the trash at work. It was used to clean pens for a pen-plotter that we don't use anymore. I'd imagine there not that hard to find or too expensive, either. At least, not too expensive compared to a cleaning service.

Walmart should have them and maybe $20. Then again, most the big Drug stores will carry them as well.

If you can find a metal container that will fit into the cleaner, you could use the PB blaster/Injector cleaner. The plastic will not hold up to it. Not sure what ammonia will do to an injector.
