New MassIVe engine combo!!
Guys, this one rocks!! It spanks the 2270 and I designed it just for the 914..
I call it the annihilator and the name suits it well. It cools unbelieveable well even at 10:1 static CR. Here is more info on it, and a new page for it on my website. This first one is going into my 73-914 for testing ASAP!! BTW I picked up 20 HP and 20 lb/ft of torque just from a carb change on this engine.. http://shoptalkforums.com/bbs/NonCGI/Forum1/HTML/004953.html http://www.aircooledtechnology.com/type4/2316/ see these pages fior more info and dyno graphs. The engine is on the dyno right now still and I'm trying to break 200 lb/ft of torque with it and 190 BHP!!!!!!!!! Yes it does have a descent lifespan, I built it for the track!!!!

When I saw the first numbers I was thinking...not much different than the regular 2270. Now I see why you were excited about this stroke/cam combo. Would this engine last longer than those 30-40k miles if it were using the Biral C's? I love to see the new dyno updates! Nathan

well this is a new combo...
I cannot make predictions, all I can say is that the damn engine runs cooler on the dyno than some 2270s and thats with the stock 914 cooling system!! I have been working all morning trying to beat those dyno runs, but the weather changed drastically since last night and I'm having to start all over with jetting. There is nothing keeping this engine from lasting more than 35-40K, but I feel that preventative maintenance is the keyand popping the heads off at 40K for new exhaust valves and a set of rings and rod bearings is just a safety factor, I recommend that on bone stock engines. I'm still going for 200 lb/ft !!!!

It seems like long stroke engines are the way to go?! I would bet the rear tires should easily light up exiting slow corners? We built mine with long stroke and it goes pretty well up to 110 or so then looses some ground to the sixes.

Jake,
That sounds like the ideal engine for a Hot 914, 914GT, or the like. It also meets the needs of those wanting some spanking ponies without the weight and cost of a six. I was even considering a V6 just to get closer to 200hp. But this could be a better choice if the numbers continue to climb. Keep up the great work! Many will be watching I'm sure.

I can make bigger popwer than this with a set of "nickies" no sweat...But this is a TINY 2300cc engine, with only 10:1 and running on pump gas!! On race fuel and more timing I could break 200!

Hey Guys,
I've heard this motor run over the phone... It makes my 2270cc T4 sound like a pussycat. It's mean, mean, mean!!! Great job Jake! Later, Tom |
