What ever happened to CarbonJoe? He was making nice parts out of carbon fiber?

I am not sure if it was on this board or on the ShopTalkForum Type IV board, but I read that Carbon Joe was a aeronautical worker out of work doing small stuff for a while and that he has since found another job and has left the parts business behind. Too bad for us. I have seen a pair of his Type IV valve covers and they were very nice. I know carbon fiber is strong, but had no idea how solid the covers were. They felt like steel.

I know a lot of projects start out in a ball of fire and then smolder forever. I'm having a hard time getting my billet clutch pulley and billet taco plate prototypes finished so I can test them. Part of the problem is not being able to use the manchind shop due to their prior comitments, which is out of my control.

The point is, there are a lot of us who would be entrepeneurs until we find out it's just hard work like everything else. I have been in business for myself virtually all my adult life, a career that now extends into the forth decade, so I know of what I speak.

And there are the liability issues as well. Joe probably realized that if one of his valve covers leaked oil and someone slipped in the oil, he would be the one to be sued thanks to the type of society we live in. I have read that 50% of the cost of a ladder is for insurance layered from manufacturer to retailer.

Sorry for the rant, but I got to thinking and struck my own nerve.

Along these same lines, there was an individual who was going to make brass shift linkage bushings for some of the ones currently available only in plastic. I don't recall hearing any more about that. He had posted quite a bit at the STF 914 forum. I know that the rear shift rod guide bushing is available from PP and others.
