That is the "009" distributor. I have heard that it was originally intended for stationary engines that power things like generators. It fits in any air-cooled VW motor, I believe. Its main virtue is that it is inexpensive.

The not so good 009 dizzy
bodyskyking
Ill will give you a little more advise, the 0231 178 009 distributor is really just not suitable ,for any thing over 1300 cc, they are a poor mans cheap dizzy. Plenty sold every day, they are reliable and work, but because they are mechanical advance, all have a very bad hesitation when slowing to an idle then accerating from there you get this hesitation, even when timed correctly and with electronic ignition fitted etc, still a heap of junk,my advise , spend a little more on vacuum advance dizzy old one in good condition, you will be really pleased. the 009 are sold from $40 to $80 the Brazil made are the worst. i went though all this a few years back on a 1600 cc VW. |
