Question What's the best way to ship a Tranny?

Any one have a suggestion to ship a transmission? I need to ship one from Texas to Ohio.

I am looking for a economical way to get this shipped.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!!

UPS will ship stuff up to 150 LBS

You might want to box it up real good and bring it down to your local UPS customer counter, they will be able to ship it for you. Also make sure that all of the gear oil is drained before you do so.
Good Luck!

Uhaul sells a 'dish box' that accepts a 901 vertically. It was recommended by Brad Mayuer in ILL. who rebuilt my sideshifter.

UPS accpeted it and it was about $100 bucks from So. Cal. to Ill.

I bolted it to a piece of plywood that sat in the bottom of the box, with a hole in the plywood to allow the mainshaft to clear the plywood. Lots of foam rubber on the bottom and around the mounting ears and end cover.

It went fine to ILL. No problem, but when Brad shipped it back he only used newspaper as cushioning and UPS managed to drop the box and break off one of the rear mounting ears.

Use extra cardboard on each side, then stuff with foam rubber.

I have used a freight company called Forward Air (forwardair.com) for shipping wheels/tires. They charge about $45-$50 for anything that will fit on a pallet and under 150 lbs. They have hubs across the nation. Select locations near the top of their homepage to find the closest hubs. They only transport, no pickup or delivery. From coast to coast only takes 3-4 days. Used many times with no issues. If you want the item insured it is only $.69 /$100 of value. Only catch is it must be boxed. They will even call the recipient once the skid has arrived.

Hope that helps,
Alex
