Tech Question

I am replacing floor and rockers on a 73 914 and i want to know if therre are any tricks or secrets i should know about doing this

Also what is the best way to get the taar like stuff off

Does any one have any info on getting collector plates for a 914 what can you get away with and how hard is it?

It depends on what state you live in....

My car came to me with new pans no tar. but yes that stuf is tough. I have heared people using heat guns to soften it and then little by little peel it up. Are you using TIG or MIG weld process.

Collector plates likely do have different requirement from state to state. But here is a link for them in WI: http://www.dot.state.wi.us/dmv/collecto.html.

The highlights here in WI are that the car must be at least 20 years old or older, it has to be stock, and you can’t drive during January. I think that stock thing is more like “reasonably” stock. A V8 conversion for example would not be a collector, but you could get hobby plates for that.

You pay a one time $140 fee (vs. $40/per year for regular license); and the plates are transferable if you sell one car and buy another collector.

As for the tar. Yuck! When you weld too close too it burns, and melts nicely so you can wipe it away...so a heat gun would probably work.

Hope this Helps.
