914/6 Bodyshell Wanted

I am looking for a 914/6 bodyshell to turn into a GT replica, don't mind if its a roller or not. Must have very little to no rust.
Anything considered
Call me on 925 570 1947

why? are you doing a conversion? personally you might be better off with a 73 or 74 car and installing a six if that is what you want.

Why? What's the benefit over a real six shell?

Depends on what you are doing. You will pay notably more for a six shell. The only real difference is vin #s. Hard to justify unless your replica is like ajserranos project

Aaron, that was my thought. I do not think Ian got it though. Isn't serranos project and all the pictures at the web site incredible? I still can not believe people want something so bad and then want it so perfect they will go to any length to get it, replicate it. I guess it is call a passion.

Thanks for taking the time to try to educate me Jim.
I am surprised that you think I know so little of what want that I wouldn't have considered the simpler options.
I have seen Armando's car and have spoken to him at length. Whilst a six will have a higher initial cost it will not only be correct but will be worth considerably more at its conclusion.
Further, there are many differences between a 1970 shell and a 73, 74 as you suggested.
The 914/6 GT's were all made, I believe in 70 and 71,
that's why I asked you for the reasoning behind your statement. I thought that you had some bright new light to shed on the project

toomany, give Jim a break. Most people do a run of the mill conversion where the vin doesn't hurt you. Maybe you could shed some light on those differences between years that cannot be removed that kills such a thing. Love to see what you do with your project.

well did not mean to get you fired up, but front area around spare tire has round metal that in my estimation makes the front end stronger stiffer and safer should you ever be in an accident. The window rollup mechanisms work better in the later model doors, and they have a steel side protector beam- weighs more but again is safer, extra fresh air vent in the interior dash, passenger seat moves, seat belts that roll up, sound deading material on firewall and most importantly you have a better chance to get a rust free car the new it is. Side shift tranny, but since you are making a hot rod maybe non of this matters. I have also talked with Armando extensively and I can assure I am not in his league nor will my budget allow me to follow my heart. After all in most peoples eyes it is just a 914. But to me they all pull at my heart. I got my first one in 1971. I do know that you are very knowledgeable.
Good luck. Jim
I am putting a 993 engine into my six - have NOS engine tin probably will not use since it will have to be modified anyway not sure what parts you have collected or if you are just waiting for the right car to show up. 805-498-6351 am also contemplating converting my six into a 916 with metal roof. But again where do you stop? How do you get there? I have owned my car 20 years and it has been in a state of restoration for most of that time, even when I thought I was done, I was not. Striving for perfection and never achieving.

Hi Jim,
thanks for the reply.
I have considered a 73, indeed I bought a really nice 73 2.0 in factory black with full service history and was initially going to convert that. Seeing the prices of 4's that have been converted really are so low I just thought that the original 6 would be a far better option in the long run.
As to parts I was initially going to fit a 3.2 and just have a car for occasional track days. I have since decided to do a real 6 and make it into a historic race car and that's the main reason for the hunt for a 6.
I'll give you a call
Best Regards
Ian

Toomany911s,

Near the end of this section, NickG has an ad about an original 914-6 trans for sale. In that post he states that he has the original body shell as well. Not sure if the shell is for sale or if this info helps you. But going by what Gretsky said... "I miss 100% of the shots that I don't take." Probably worth contacting NickG if you haven't done so already.

I am currently working on a 70 914-6 which I am tuning into a GT conversion. Nothing as sophisticated as AJ serrano's, but should be pretty nice when done. Steel flares are welded on, next comes chassis stiffening kit, etc. Engines will be a built 2.0 liter (w/ 906 pistons; still needs assembly, all parts are there & machine work is done) and a 2.8 liter twin plugged which is assembled & waiting to be installed. Good luck with your project. Let me know how it works out.

Best Regards,

Dave

Hi Dave,
thanks for the tip, I'll check out his post.
I'd really like to see pics of your car if you have them, it sounds like what I am planning.
Thanks again
Ian
