914 with subaru 2.7 six, cable shifter

1975 Porsche 914 w. Subaru 2.7 liter Six and cableshift! $6500obo

email is etischer@etischer.com

The car is located in Dublin California and is available for test drives. A tow bar is included if you would like to tow home instead of drive. Ive owned the car since 1998, and all work has been done by me. Im asking $6500 or best offer. I have a ton of online documentation at http://www.etischer.com/>http://www.etischer.com/

The good:

This car is quiet! It's is very refined as far as 914s go. It's not a grumbly vibratey Chevy big block, and not a lawn mower sounding air cooled engine. The stock engine was rated 140hp, and this engine has been boosted to 12:1 compression, enlarged throttle body, modified cams. Conservatively I'd guess 160hp. It uses a hot wire air flow meter. The engine adapter was a kennedy adapter, using the stock 914 clutch (upgraded 6 spring). The engine fits as if it were made for the car, it came from a 1991 subaru XT6. The engine has a new oil pump, new timing belt, water pump. It does smoke for about a minute when starting up cold. The car does have dual cats, but no smog pump or EGR. It is exempt from smog in california. Some fuel lines replaced with steel. 90 amp alternator. optima battery, No oil leaks! All new seals and gaskets. Here are details of the install and doner car... http://www.etischer.com/914xt6.html>click here

I built a cable shift setup for use with the tail shifters. The car was originally side sift though, if you wanted to go back. The cables pass though the original shift hole, and all mods are reversable. I have a short throw, the side to side motion remains pretty stock to maintain accuracy. There is a dead stop at either side, and a spring return to center which is a huge improvement over the stock shifter. 911 high torque starter is new. All parts used are documented in my how to online manual. Tranny was rebuilt about 6 years ago, no grinding in any gear and stays dry. click here

The engine is water cooled, I did the cooling system in 1998 and it has never once given me trouble. Here are details of how I did my cooling system. Unlike most people who run cooling lines under the car, Im the only 914 with the lines running though the car. The lines are all copper fittings. A high quality ball valve is used for the heater core. The heater core was added in 1999, and I have never had a problem with it either. Never any leaks, car has never consumed water. http://www.etischer.com/914xt.html>click here

The paint passes the 50/50 rule. It looks good 50 feet away at 50mph. There are some small rust holes in one corner of the trunk. The car does have a salvage title, but the damage was very minimal. The front fender was smashed in, I believe the fender is still original. The windsheild is original with all the original chrome. There is a tow bar included if you wish to tow this car home, it uses a 2" ball. Also included are euro tail lights (orange turn signals). All lenses are in good shape, the bumpers are in good shape. The body is rigid. The trunk lid has been modified with the gas shocks, a common mod. I forget the name of the wheels, but they were notable as being the lightest wheels porsche made. The tires are Yokohama high performace summer tires. Door handles aren't broken! Foglights work. Original factory fog light switch installed. Tires are at about half life left.

The interior is average for a 914. There is a water temp and oil pressure gague. The faster button is decorative and is just there with double sided tape. The dash has a few cracks, the cd/stereo is sorta welded in, many people have attempted to steal it, but never been successful. it is in there solid, but can easily be removed in about 5 minutes. Turn signal doesn't cancel, and I have a hot start switch installed for starting, since the starter was upgraded to 911 starter. The heater core heater works! Tach needs to be upgraded to a 6 cylinder tach still. I tweeked some pots inside the 4 cyl tach to get the rpm close to accurate. Seat belt retractors are newish. E-brake works well, regular brakes work well. Popup headlights work well. Gauges work well execpt for the tach. Oil light is not connected, but there is an oil pressure gague. Sending unit does have oil light connection. Rockford fosgate amp under dash, ipod is ready to plug in! The speakers were $350 new, they are MB quart 6.5". The tweeter is mounted in the factory location, wooffers in door. The system works great on the freeway with top down.

The bad:

Turn signal doesn't cancel, but they still work.

Electrical part (start position only) of the ignition doesn't start the car, the electrical ignition key switch is new though.
A seperate start stich operates the starter.

The engine does smoke slightly for about a minute when cold, and does consume quite a bit of oil. (but smog exempt). It runs strong, doesn't foul plugs and doesn't smoke once warmed up, and doesn't leak a drop of oil.

If car sits for several days, sometimes the lifters are noisey for a few minutes

Seats have rips (see pics below).

Salvage title (very minor damage, virtually no bondo)

Cooling fan is monsterous, name plate on the motor is 40amps, and it was measured to be 40 amps, you may want two smaller fans which will be quieter. Alternator is 90amps so high current 40 amp fan is not an issue.

Reverse lights are not connected, switch is in the tranny though.
Odometer doesn't work

Sold As-is
