Wanted to update the add with the specs on this engine:
Type 1 VW dual port engine:
1) 90.5mm Mahle Pistons and Cylinders (thickwalled cylinders)
2) 78.0mm stroked crankshaft. Fully welded counterweights. Drilled for 8 flywheel dowel pins and heavy duty Gene Berg forged flywheel gland nut.
3) Large diameter Chrome-moly pushrod tubes. "Wide base lifters" solid lifters.
4) 305 degree duration cam with stock ratio rockers. Elephant feet valve adjusters.
5) Gene Berg shimmed rocker arm shafts (eliminates the springs between rocker arms for better rocker location)
6) Large dual port heads. Ported and Polished with 40mm Intake valve, 35.5mm Exhaust valve.
Racing dual valve springs.
7) Heavy duty oil pump (wider drive gears) with Berg Full Flow cover for remote oil filter. Tapped and plugged for improved oil bypass.
8) Berg 1.5 quart additional cast oil sump.

At the time I built this engine it had over $2200 in parts and machine work. It was always run with oil filtration via an O-Berg filter and religiously maintained.
It has a lumpy idle with the cam installed since there is so much duration, yet it will pull all the way to 7000rpm with the dual Webers that I ran with it.

If I left anything out let me know and I can give more details if you're interested.
I have all the receipts for the parts that were installed in a binder for the next owner.

Thanks,
Fred

Where are you located, what's the horse power & do the Webers come with the motor? -Bill

Located in Royal Oak, MI
Never dynoed it but guessing conservatively around 150-160hp.
Webers have already been sold separately.

Hey Fredmeister, a few questions about your type 1 motor. The cam duration, is that the advertised duration or duration at .050? Also, who ported the heads and what brand is the counterweighed crank? How many miles on the motor and is it in good running condition? Thanks, Eric.

As for the engine specs, like I said it has been awhile since the initial build so I am gonna have to dig into my records to answer specific questions.

PM me if you're truly interested in discussing buying it.

The engine only has approx. 5000 miles on it as I built it for my VW Karmann Ghia that I only ran for about 2-3 summers before I sold it. It has been stored in my heated garage for several years now wrapped and sealed in plastic. It was running perfect when put away.

Just went thru my records and receipts and wanted to update the add with the corrected specs on this engine:
Type 1 VW dual port engine:
1) 90.5mm Mahle Pistons and Cylinders (thickwalled cylinders) 9.5:1 C/R
2) 78.0mm stroked crankshaft from Vee Dub Parts Machine. Fully welded counterweights. Drilled for 8 flywheel dowel pins and heavy duty Gene Berg forged 4130 Chrome moly flywheel gland nut.
3) Gene Berg Large diameter Chrome-moly pushrod tubes. "Wide base lifters" solid lifters.
4) Gene Berg 302 Grind cam 308 degree duration cam with stock ratio rockers. Elephant feet valve adjusters.
5) Gene Berg shimmed rocker arm shafts (eliminates the springs between rocker arms for better rocker location)
6) Large dual port heads Small Car Specialties HB3 heads. Ported and Polished with 40mm Intake valve, 35.5mm Exhaust valves.
Racing dual valve springs.
7) Heavy duty oil pump (wider drive gears) with Berg Full Flow cover for remote oil filter. Tapped and plugged for improved oil bypass.
8) Berg 1.5 quart additional cast oil sump. Tapped and fitted with remote oil temp sensor for VDO gage.
9) Gene Berg supplied KEP 1700lb pressure plate and lightened flywheel.

This engine was a screamer in my VW Karmann Ghia.
It is just a long block for sale, everything is here except for the distributor and the cooling tin/fan shrouding and alternator.
Have one person interested now, waiting on me to get back in town to show him.
However, no deposits yet.
PM me with interest.

Bump
Any interest anyone.
Shipping/freight charges are responsibility of buyer.

fredmeister 02-07-2008 06:57 AM

BUMP.
Engine still available.....make an offer.
This engine built using the best available internals and valve gear. Fully balanced and extremely durable...not punched out to extreme displacement where cylinders and case becomes liable.

Fredmeister, forgive my internet stupidity but I don't know what PM me means. I am interested in the engine but I clicked on your user profile and no contact info was given. Please email me amaher111@hotmail.com. If you put a phone number in the email that would be great, it takes me forever to type.
