Wanted 901 Tranny for 914/6

Looking to buy OEM transmission for 1970 - 1972 914/6 for immediate use. Please email me at domosheyin@yahoo.com if you happen to have one for sale.

Found out that my existing transxel only sustained minor damage (broken shifter pin); the pin is being replaced by my mechanic. Therefore, I no longer need a replacement transmission.

Why? The gearing is only so slightly different it doesn't make any difference. The shift linkage is better than a 4 cyl tail shift, but only slightly.

I rebuilt my orig 6 tranny into a sideshift (kept the gearing and the case) and then converted it. Unless you are trying to go for a concours competition, I'd convert to sideshift.

If you do this, you'll need a sideshift tranny, the shifter in the car, the linkage. The linkage has to be cut, so that you can straighten the long shiftrod. I used black iron pipe, drilled and doweled it, then welded the links.

If you want to convert you tailshift 6 to sideshift, you need to tear down the tranny, replace the shift forks, the shift rake replace the shift finger and the tail cover. Note, the gear on the speedo drive is different for the 6. Also move the intermediate plate, since you need the post for the throttle linkage.

Remember, there were only 3200 worldwide 6 engines and transmissions.

Thanks for the advice. I will explore the possibility of converting to sideshift, I have a sideshift transaxel from a 1974 4 cyl. in my garage that I may be able to salvage some parts from.

Best Regards

The -6 trans has additional webbing inside the clutch housing vs the 4..I don't think it will really matter unless your running a big block.
