FS: 1.7/1.8L 914-4 heat exchangers in Omaha, NE $250 shipped

I mainly work on VW buses (upright bug engine powered); however I have these 914-4 heat exchangers that I don't really need. I can't really fit in a 914 very well, so I'll more than likely never use them.

They were blasted clean and painted to stop any new rust so you can make them whatever high temp color you wish. A magnet adheres to them, so I'd guess they are not stainless steel. No pinholes etc. The edges of the tin in a few spots by the pipes going to a flange are a little bit ragged. The flanges for head and muffler mounting are good. From being on a shelf there are a few dents/dings on them but overall they are in good shape. I don't know if there is a difference between the 1.7/1.8/2.0 versions.

Location: Omaha, NE

I have access to lots of free cardboard/foam etc from the recycling at work to pack these up for shipping so they will be pretty well protected.

Price: $250 shipped in the USA

Working on making boxes and padding them with foam, airbags, and probably packing peanuts.

Those are 1.7L heat exchangers for 70-74 motors. The upsweep on the pipes as they exit the shells tells they are the 1.7L type. The 74 1.8L uses ones that look the same but with larger pipes. 2.0 units have pipes that are straight out out the shells. The pipes on 1.7L ones are smaller than what are used on 1.8 and 2.0L. The 75-76 cars use a completely different type that is more restrictive. Owners often back date to the earlier units. They would not be a good choice for a 2.0L engine due to the pipe size.
If you back date the heat exchanger you mus also change over most of the heater tin, muffler and muffler bracket.

Thanks for the identification info Bruce. I tried to update the title to include the size, but don't think it stuck.

I'm tired of tripping over these. So they're $200 shipped in the continental USA.

Bruce,

Thanks for the clarification. I understand all that you wrote except for the comment about changing out the "heater tin". What exactly are you referring to here, and is it a difficult item to source and install?
