Rotor fit problem

Hi All,

I am trying to get my '87 944 NA put back together and I am noticing a real problem while mounting the calipers.

The calipers are original to the car, just rebuilt. With the rotors off, the calipers mount fine. With the rotors on, the calipers won't mount AND they rub against the calipers as seen in the photo below.

Now the only reason I am doubting myself is that I got the rotors from Pelican, and one of their very knowledgeable specialists told me these were the ones I needed.

This is what Pelican is showing they shipped me:
Front Brake Rotor (with Coat Z)
Part #: 944-351-041-05-M359

The rotors I have are Zimmerman and have the following numbers on them:

1518 "Z" 99473

The rotors I have are 11.5" in diameter, or 292.1mm. According to VDubEngineering these are the 944 rotor sizes:

944:

NA: Steel single piston ATE caliper front (56mm) and rear (38mm). Front vented rotor (282 x 20.4 x 35mm) and rear vented rotor (290 x 20.4 x 71mm). Hub PN: 477.405.605D

So apparently what I have is too big by 10mm. Thoughts? I think they sent the wrong rotors.

As always any advice is appreciated.

Na’s have floating calipers so you need the pads in there for them to self center. Fit the pads and they will center up just fine and won’t touch anymore. Diameter is correct for an na, iirc only the turbo S had rotors bigger than 300mm

Got it! Your reminder about "floating calipers" did the trick.

Thank you!
