antenna replacement suggestions?
Do any of you folks have a suggestion for an aftermarket replacement antenna for an early 944?
I have an automatic antenna in there now, but it's very dead, and probably not salvageable (too much corrosion). For that reason, I'm leaning towards a manual antenna. Also, I'm not too concerned about having it look original-- just something that will mount in the same hole without wobbling around too much. The antenna signal connector doesn't look familiar-- any ideas on what type it is? BTW, for anyone else attempting antenna repairs, I was able to remove the charcoal canister without taking the wheel off-- you just have to crank the steering wheel to the left lock while the car is rolling, and then park it. TIA,

As soon as I pick up ( hopefully soon) a replacement driver side fender, I'll be relocating the antenna. I intend to install a fuba-type antenna on the roof behind the sunroof opening....this is similar to the 968's antenna and has been done before ( either somebody here or on rennlist) and looks great! Try a search....

eh. IMHO the Fuba antenna looks weird. Plus, I'm not in the mood to snake the cable up to the roof. Whatever works for you, I guess.
I'm looking for something to fill the same hole. Maybe an Audi or VW antenna? I'm sure that someone out there has done this, but all of the antenna threads I searched sorta died before anyone posted details about what mfr/model worked for them.

If your just looking for a direct replacement then why not get one of the Hirschman's that I see on Ebay all the time ( probably here at pelican too!)...I think they are OEM. Or try an antenna site like www.locustom.com and see what's available.....I happen to like the look of the antenna on the 968! good luck!

NAPA also has manual fender-mount antennas that are universal and will fit an early 944 without trouble.
