Power steering
Recently my car has begun to squeek and whine as I turn my wheel at a stop or in 1st gear. I assume its to do with the power steering... maybe the fluid is low or a belt ..ill go check the fluid now but if it isnt that then what could it be? Also its a continious squeek when i turn it but when u let go of the wheel it stops. And it only heppens at slow speeds.

The pressures are greatest when the car is motionless or going very slowly and you turn the steering wheel. The reason is that you turn the steering wheel much faster and there is more road friction when car is not moving or moving slowly. Higher pressure means more belt loading. You may only have a worn or loose belt.

I think Mr. Coppari's suggestion should be done first - check for a loose belt and adjust the turnbuckle if necessary and/or replace the belt. If that does not work, do as Mr. Juvat has suggested. They are both right.
Good Luck.
