Tie Rod Assembly
So I'm thumbing thur a jc whitney cat. And come along a add for tie rods ball joints and all. I'm wondering if they will fit a 944.
They sale them for power or manual steering. One part number fits all these cars! Manual is differnt for power (left and right side same part number just like the 944) 74-84 rabbit , 74-88 scirocco , 80-84 jetta , 80-93 cabriolet. Could it be they are the same thing? If so I payed to much for tie rod assembly & ball joints. They are only $30.00 bones. They look the same but are they??? Anyone Know? Please let me know! Thanks Jody |

Could very well be. Everything I've read says that the early 944's used a VW derived front suspension. I don't know if they are the same or not, but I'll definitely look around to see if I can find anything. If I find anything, I'll let everyone know.

Compare part numbers, although the 924 used many VW parts, for the 944 there are significantly less shared parts. The 944 did not use any major components directly interchangable with a vw though. Ex; the control arms will look very similar to the scirocco suspension, but in fact they were modified by Porsche. I personally feel safe buying the part that I know was made for my car. (this is usually because the 944 is much heavier, and will generate a lot more lateral force than it's VW friend the part might be designed for!) But, if the numbers match, it's the same part. You might save money, but be careful.
