944 More Power!!!

Hello, I have a 1986 Porsche 944 that is an automatic, yes I wish I had a stick but it seemed like a good deal at the time. Maybe some of you guys might know a few different ways to get some more power out of this car.
Do the chips make a difference? Is there anyting I can do to get some more power out of this car without spending alot of money?
Let me know, Thanks Rich

About the only thing that you can do is, go with a Cone filter conversion, and a free flow exhaust. On mine I went with splitfire plugs, and a set of larger Jacobs plug wires, they let me open up the plug gap a little.
Even with all of that, I probably gained a whole 5-15 hp! I've not heard too many good things about chips for the non turbo cars.
You could add headers for about 2-3 more hp.

Thanks for the advice, which spark plugs will give you the most power, and what type of air filter is best. Would a K&N Filter help me out?

K&N makes very little to no difference, I bought mine so I could clean and reuse it instead of buying a new one. I would't spend money on cat-backs, I think stock is just as good as any aftermarket. Headers are a different issue though. I put split fire spark plugs along with a Jacobs performance coil, this made the biggest difference for me. The reason I didn't go with +4s is that the gap is not adjustable, and you're supposed to increase it with a performance coil, hope this helps.

I replaced the CAT with a straight pipe on my '83 944. I also have a K&N filter. The pipe seems to increase performance at higher rpms. It seems to go much quicker at 4000 or higher rpm when highway driving. Hope this helps.

Do you pass the inspection, what is your CO reading? I will take mine off in a heartbeat if you pass it by a little margin. (I've already got a mild cam)
