Underhood courtesy light
Hello All, Happy Thanksgiving.
My under hood courtesy light isn't working. I bought a replacement bulb but that doesn't seem to fix the problem. I am going to figure out some way to sand out some oxidation within the bulb socket to see if that is the problem but if not does anyone have any ideas? The switch that turns it on/off based on hood position moves freely and the wires don't seem to be compromised at all. I have a voltmeter/multimeter but frankly I don't know how to use it to test the bulb socket. Any thoughts or a quick "how to" with the voltmeter? Thanks in advance! GHEN

Try putting the right blinker on when checking it.

Actually Ghen, it's very easy.
1. Simply remove the bulb 2. Set your Volt/Ohm meter to DC volts (20vdc or thereabouts) 3. Turn your car's light switch on (parking works) 4. Place the red meter lead on the center contact in the light socket (Positive/Hot) 5. Place the black lead on the socket's side (Negative/Ground) 6. Read the results - You should see a value of 11.5 - 13.0vdc; any reading will prove that there is continuity. Note: Try not to touch the leads together; you'll end up blowing a fuse/relay. Good luck!

The light only works when the turn signal is on (I thought it was "left", but not sure).
Give Curtisr some props for that one

![]() It should also work when the parking lights are on. Batteries are out of the cars at the moment so I'm relying on my unreliable memory. Sorry, I hate guessing...
