power loss problem

I experience loss of power sometimes on my 83 manual 944. Here are the clues you have to play with:

1. Happens every other day or so
2. Only within first few miles of driving (car not warm yet)
3. Only happens for a few seconds at most
4. Somestimes it sputters
5. Sometimes very little power gets to the wheels, and after a few seconds it catches and violently takes off
6. This happens whether I'm "cruising" or changing gears
7. While loss of power is occuring, engine revs up fine, but little power gets to wheels.

Ideas? GREATLY appreciated!

Number 7 kinda sounds like the clutch is slipping. 8-)

Yea it does sound like the clutch. If it is that is gonna be a lot of $$$$$ to fix! Good luck

If it was just a clutch wearing down, it wouldn't happen less than 1% of the time. Right? That's not to say it's not a problem somewhere in the clutch, but just replacing the clutch doesn't seem like a good answer.
