Weird things i found

Well I finally got my pesky oil plug off today and changed the oil. I fixed my 2nd fan ..blown fuse..thanks frank. I finally fixed my damned oil leak on the back of the cam.

Well as usual i inspected the engine seeing if anything was askew. I looked under the car to my horror to see that the plate or whatever it is that covers the clutch broke and is just there with nothing holding it on. I can see where it broke off. I should have gotten a picture to show u guys. Its broken enough for me to be able to touch the clutch. In fact i can stick my whole hand up there and I got all clutch dust on my hands. Is the bad and needs to be fixed now? Anything on the road could be thrown up into it so i assume it should be fixed.

Also right before the cat the weld there has broken allowing the exhaust to escape. I assume i should ge this fixed now too?

Ive never heard about the clutch cover thing but that sounds dangerous to the clutch, id fix that for sure RIGHT AWAY, before the exhaust leak, but the exhaust leak should also be fixed, ive heard you loose power with exhaust leaks, plus it sounds terrible.

Does everyone elses 944 kind of sputter or sound like theres exhaust leaks when driving, is that just the sound of the engine? Mine sounds like there is exhaust leaks but i cant find any since i just did my whole exhaust from the oxygen sensor back. I dont feel exhaust coming from around the headers. Is this just how 944's sound? I hear it more(obviously) when i drive next to buildings or cars, i dont like it!

no, mine doesn't sound like it has a leak, nor does it sputter.

Its always good to have the "clutch inspection plate" intact. And exhaust leaks of any kind should be corrected.

Roastin.. Take your car into a muffler shop and ask them to diagnose any noises you hear. Any decent shop will trouble shoot for free to get your business.

I have never tried this but if you take a squirt bottle adjust it to mist and spray it around the exhaust. You should be able to see the leaking exhaust blow the mist and steam around.

your welcome cooler. Have the clutch inspection plate fixed immediatly, also if you have any type of exhaust leak it will cause a number of problems with accelerating from a stand still and also accelerating in the higher gears.. it will feel like your car is accelerating through peanut butter.... This engine needs a specific amount of backpressure to perform optimally. so, have it checked.

my exhasut make funny noises like a leak too, but I haven't noticed a performance problem. Maybe I should take it in too.
