Cross-talking wires + fuel rail leak = miracle car still alive. (Just Venting)
Went down today to bleed the cooling system (everything seemed to be working right, but it would get up to the third mark so I figured I ought to bleed it and see if that helped). Managed to get a few air bubbles out of the system as the engine was warming up when I noticed that there seemed to be little flashes around the plug wires. Little white flashes. Looking closer, I see that my plug wires are arking to the head if they are within about 1/8 inch of it.
OK, no biggie. Time for new plug wires, I'll get a set at the shop on Wed when it goes in for the slave cylinder. Curiosity has me look to see if it's just the one arking or if they are all arking. I notice that the wires are arking to each other at about the midpoint of the head. As I'm watching the cross-arking, I look down at the recess for the plugs and I notice that there is a lot of liquid down there. Must be what has been spit out of the venting screw. Wait, that doesn't smell at all like coolant... Smells like raw fuel... *5-second pause while my mind realises that raw fuel leaking onto the head is not a good thing when the plug wires are arking* ****!!! *sprint around car and yank the key out of the ignition* The vacuum valve (there sure are a lot of vacuum valves on this car, it's worse than D-Jet) at the front of the fuel rail is soaked in fuel, which appears to be leaking from where the fuel line connects to the valve. So the question is, now how do I get the car to the shop 15 miles away. I started the car again just to make sure and this time nothing was leaking, but before there had very clearly been fuel dripping from that front vacuum valve.

In retrospect, the thread was venting. On the other hand, good thing I found it out this way. If only all of this crap could have waited a few weeks I'd have been home and I could have fixed it myself. If I didn't love this car so much, I'd hate it. But then, I think that's how all good loves are. Aaron

Fuel pressure regulator and Fuel Pressure dampener need to be replaced, they are about $40 each.

....and.....where is YOUR fire extinguisher? anything that can burn will do so more vigorously in the presence of oxygen.
