What would make this even cooler is if the center console lid could be converted to a "slider" to go towards the back and be out of the way entirely

if they are only as deep as the center console don't the cups tip out? Would do it in an instant as I have the cup holder that slides in between passenger seat and console. DW doesn't appreciate me taking up her space. Glued or screwed?

No the cups or soda bottle don't tip out & you can even drive & shift with the cover open, beleive me.The idea behind it was to make the holders disapear once done & it work.

This is how I install the one in my 944 ,doesn't take DW space .But the draw back is that you have to twist your arm like a pretzel in order to reach your cup unless
your dear wife hand it to you.

OH! Lord that was done a long time ago ,but if my old memory serve me well ,I pick the ashtrays from two different cars in a scrap yard ,modify the high to fit within the console cover .Then painted them fit two rubber ring around them

& stick them down with M3 two way tape. In the pics you can see that I have no problems shifting with the cover open. The pic with the large Timmy cup was taken when park & having a coffee.
Close up of my beautiful work

Ernie, that is one gorgeous interior. Do you have a thread showing how, and from what materials, you assembled it? The carpets alone are beautiful. John
