Installing new slave and master clutch cylinders
 

Tomorrow ( Saturday ) I need to install new clutch cylinders since I got the clutch to the floor and it would not come back up.
I have a few questions
Can I remove and install the clutch master without removing the brake master cylinder ?
Can I remove and install the slave without removing the starter?
Will it really take a full day to bleed the system?
Can the system be bled with only the front end lifted?

im sure AFJuvat or someone in the know will clear these up for you better than i can. you can remove the clutch master without rouching the brake master. and from what i understand it is better to bleed the clutch with the rear end lifted. it shouldnt take too long, not longer than bleeding brakes.
im not sure about the starter. the haynes manual recommends it but i dont know why.

Yes you can. I had a tough time with my A/C lines going over the clutch master cylinder. The early cars did not have this problem. You should be able to get your hands in there. Tight fit. You really dont want to remove the brake master...or you will have twice as much to bleed!


Can I remove and install the slave without removing the starter?

Yes. Make sure the battery is unhooked!


Will it really take a full day to bleed the system?

No. It takes a little time. It will get there. Took me about a half hour.

Can the system be bled with only the front end lifted?
Yes.... Gravity bleeding works great. But hand pumping works well.


Also ake sure you have line-wrenches!!!!! Soak the slave line with PB blaster just in case. You do not want to strip this line. It costs big bucks!!!!!

Hmm, line wrenches? Those are the ones that are open end with a small opening on the end?
