Heater that blow hot then cold

We finally had our first cold front in Texas after record setting highs of 112 degrees a few weeks ago! I attempted to use my heater going to work yesterday and had periods of nice warm air, then suddenly the air would be cold (like the outside air). Eventually, without changing any of the temp regulator settings, it would get warm again.

Any suggestions what might cause such a strange occurance?

We have had a similar problem with our 86na. Seems that a small white plastic clip had failed. The clip is located just to the right of your right foot as it sit's next to the gas pedal. It's up and under so you will have to bend around a bit to find it. The clip holds a cable that controls an air flap. The flap controls the mix of cold vs warm air. The clip is very inexpensive.
