Dead spot at 2500-3000 RPM with my Autothority Chip??

I bought a used Autothority chip from a guy on the net. Not sure bout power gains..but my car seems to have a dead spot @ 2500-3000 rpm when the throttle is barely pushed. Could I have gotten the chip in backwards by chance?
Thanx,
Greyson

Anybody? This is some crappy hesitation. Kinda reminds me of my old 320i when the fuel pump relay went bad.

Ok...I was hoping many replies by now. Can it be installed a wrong way and still make the car work?

My car just feels sluggish now. The rev limit is no longer at 6400, but it just seems like it doesn't pull as well. Hmm..startin to feel like maybe I got hosed or something.. It was good before the chip..now it just feels crappy. I run 92 octane, have new plugs, slight exhaust leak from broken motor mount(gettin fixed this week), k&n and throttle wheel. Just doesn't make sense.

Bumpin this post up. I cleaned my intake system and TB. It had lotsa gunk in there. I replaced my filter with a conefilter also. It hesitates worse now. Pitch some ideas..my fuel pump is noisy..but figured that was normal. I'll change to the stock chip tonight and post my response.

I personally have not used FR's chips, but, for years I have heard people sing his praises on Rennlist. Through reading many discussions on Rennlist that he was a part of, it really seams that he has put his time and energy into the design and testing of them. I would bet my bottom dollar that his chips would outperform most other chips on the market.

(Hey FR.... you owe me a beer now..... )

I was going to sugest changing out with the stock chip to check to see if it was the chip...I see you have already done that...Have you tried to contact the seller? Good luck. I had used the AA stage 2 chip on my 89 951 and was happy with it.

Yep. The seller replied once with a "What, it didn't give me problems" and never replied again. I bought it off a seller on some random 944 classifieds on the net. Spent $80 shipped. Not a horrible amount..but sucks nonetheless. I'm gonna call Autothority tomorrow and see what they can do. My guess...magnetism got to it?

Yeah maybe it was erased, I think most engine computers have a default setting so it might still run with an erased chip.

Let's hope autothority can help, re-program it cheap or something?

The other thought that occurs is that it is for a different year/model or something

OT..but fitted my cold air intake (made from 3" mandrel pipe to the front ground lip) and got my supertrapp on today. Damn!! It sounds sweet. I'd really be nice to have the chip now..

Been reading the whole AFM adjustment posts, and wondering if this could have anything to do with the hesitation/ cut out from the chip? With/without the chip, it shudders when letting off the throttle while driving. Makes for an annoying daily driver. Any ideas here?

BTW: Been away for awhile again... Hello to the crew once again!

Greyson,

The EEPROM "may" have glitched/corrupted code. How does this happen? See my previous reply to a post.

Gentlemen, ESD is real and contrary to a reply by one of the Pelicans, you cannot check the integrity of the code by merely looking at the EEPROM's physical outward appearance

Did your chip come packed in anti-static shipping materials?
("pink" packing peanuts or pink bubble wrap?) If not, then you may have useless junk on your hands...

I was impressed with FR WILKS product and his attention to ESD.

Sorry for the reality check. I sincerely hope that you get your money back. I've been burned before.

Bob

It's an 85.5 NA 944. The chip came packaged in this dark grey transluscent bag that says anti-static on it. It also came in a sealed case as well. The car does the jerking around when off the throttle regaurdless of chip though. That would be my first priority. It also seems to get about 20-25 mpg around town. I've cleaned the AFM, TB, and as much as I could when I did all my belts and seals. When I start it up once a week, it spits out black junk on the ground, and sometimes seems to get fouled as if it ran too rich. It has no dead spots without the chip, but with, it's like a fuel cutout off/on...

Yes, but the point is that you do not know how the "chip" was handled prior to shipment. If I read your post correctly, the "chip" is used, and the seller simply/probably retained the original shipping materials. Basically, if the code was glitched due to ESD then merely putting it into an anti-static bag will NOT correct the codition.
