Jackstand points.
 

I guess this is a pretty basic question, but where do you position the jackstands under a 944? When I last had my car up on jackstands I wasn't satisfied that it was safe and secure. Any tips would be appreciated.

well, on these cars theres not really what you would call a "good" place to put them.

I put one under the transmission, and one on each side of the wheels (some metal things?)

Just be careful while under these cars.

Wow what a fast reply. This board is great! Yes, saftey is obviously a concern for me -- hence me asking the question. I used four jackstands, the rears on the lower A-arms? I'm just guessing that you would call it that. And the fronts were placed just behind the motor under some square protrusions of perhaps the floorpan? Sorry for the lack of technical terms. I'm sure someone will straghten me out.

I agree, there is no "Great" place to put the stands... I strongly suggest that you not put any stand under the trans.... I use the center point to lift my car one side at a time and place my stands under the lift points just in front of the rear wheel and behind the front wheel. I have modified my stands by welding on a large diameter nut that fits inside of the lift point. This had made my stands un-usable for other cars. I have a friend who when doing none wheel related work, places some drive-up style ramps under his wheels. Because of the angle, he is unable to drive up onto them.

Ahh yes. I wanted to put the stands under the front and rear "lift" points as you describe, but they don't fit securely since the top is shaped like a Y. I like your idea of modifying them, though I wonder if anyone sells adapters?

I have seen adapters for only the jack itself. I think it was "Automotion" or "Pelican"... its kind of a hat with a protruding dimple that fits over the cup part of the jack. Because I went the low cost route, I use a soft block of wood with my jack. I have torn up some of my "undercoating" so have used some "spray can" stuff that works really good but takes forever to dry

I use the drive-up ramps(heavy duty plastic?) made by Rhino, I think. They were the best tool I've ever bought for my car. I think I got them at auto-zone. The only thing that sucks is you can't really do work that requires pulling the wheels. But doing anything else really makes the job more time efficient.
