Picture of loaded brake caliper

Can anyone snap me a picture of a loaded and properly assembeled 87' and up 951 brake caliper? I am sure something is missing from my setup, I am just not sure what it is. I still have a problem with the pads knocking around in the calipers.

Thanks

Awesom pictures, and it helps illustrate my issue. What keeps the pads from moving back and forth in the caliper? Certinally not the spring!

There are two metal brackets that hold the two halves together that offer some resistance as well as the spring.

Your refering to the "spring plates" I just replaced those, still no luck.

But there is hope, I just got of the phone with the helpfull people here at Pelican and I am missing some parts, in fact so is the caliper in the picture above. There should be 4 damping pads on each caliper, one per piston. I ordered these and 4 new Mintex brake pads just now. I hope this helps.

When I ordered new brakes for the 951 I asked Mother Juvat about those dampners....

If I recall he said it was used in the turbo S (don't quote me) my 86 did not use them....

AF told me to just coat the pads with Antisqueal GOOP (technical description).....and slap them in.

I have two cars with different setups with two different results.............

944 (with turbo brakes) - jurid pads, crossdrilled zimmermans, lots of goop,... = squeels and slaps

951 - pagid pads, slotted brakes, lots of goop = no squeels and no slapping

In the 944 (with turbo brakes) I have the rear calipers slapping the worst when I am in reverse.......... I am wondering if its actually a caliper problem???

That is EXACTLY my problem its terrible in reverse! If these pads don't fix it I am going to order a "Big Red" kit next week and call it done.

I did check on the dampers in PET they were in the 87 Brembro diagram so I figured that were just tossed out when some PO did a brake job.

I am just so SICK of that slapping noise!

Hrmm i have the same setup as ae1969's 944 in my 968 and they were squelling pretty bad so i took them apart and got rid of all that goop and used some Permatex disc brake lube (kinda like high temp grease). I put that stuff everywhere in the caliper and on every metal part that the brakes pad touches. Now i have no squells and the car stops great.

That goop is trash i think i read that you can use moly lube.

Yes, so far Paragon is winning in the price department. I will still need to score some 17" wheels prior to the upgrade, but hey I was looking to upgarde the old Design 90's anyway.

Correct, that anti-squeel dampeners provide mixed results at best.

We use anti-sieze for the goop = no problems reported as ett.

Caliper noises: remember that the turbo calipers are ALUMINUM - some creeking is considered normal.

Is that anti-seize stuff the same as Copper grease?

I have always used copper grease on all the moving parts and the back of the pads to great effect, no squeeling ever on any of my previous cars.

Anti-squeel plates AND copper grease together work pretty well too. Copper grease between pad and plate and between plate and piston.

I wish my only issue was just squeel. I can't stand coming to a ligh and hearing 4 pops from the calipers.

Yep - that is likely the calipers. - seen it many times on older turbos. The only reliable fix I have seen is replacement (yeeech!0

As long as all of the bolts are torqued properly, it should not affect your ability to stop the car.
