944 Sideview Mirror Wind Noise

On the sideview mirrors, where there is the open seam where the mirror attaches and pivots to the mount, I get a lot of wind noise from that seam when driving at speed. If I cover the seam with my hand, the noise goes away. Is there a solution? Cover the seam with tape? Just forget it and enjoy the noise?

IIRC, on the 87 and newer cars, there is a plastic seal for just that purpose, to minimize the wind noise at speed from the gap between the base and the post for the mirror. On my 84 944, I either live with it, or I roll up the window a bit. I suppose a bit of 3M clear plastic might make it even quieter.

Both my early cars do the same thing; I just live with it.

I think I’ll just live with it. I tried tape today, which helped, but in this hot weather the tape was almost impossible to remove. And I didn’t want the tape to become a permanent part of the paint.

I bought those seals for my first car over 20 years ago. I've looked around since and not found them. Like George, I've experimented with different solutions, but it is a low priority for me. I only think about it when I'm driving down the road.

What is this wind noise? Pics. maybe, better description.

I think you are talking about this small white triangular piece, right? Looks like you could get it from Porsche for about $20.

I’m away from home so I can’t post pics. Basically, the mirrors pivot on the permanent mounts, and the space between the mirrors and mounts are the culprit. When driving, the air seems to pass through this space and causes a shrieking noise. The space I mentioned is horizontal, so it’s a perfect opportunity for wind to penetrate and cause noise. Tape seemed to fix the problem but was not visually acceptable.
