Paint the strip below the door on a 924S body color?

I can't decide if it would improve the looks or just look wrong.

A very quick & amateurish photo edit, since I haven't found evidence anyone has ever done it:

Jared,

Interesting question and good job illustrating it. When you look at others cars and the lengths their designers go to manage how we see/perceive them, it’s usually about hiding bulk. I think the black rocker helps make the 924S look more … svelte.

Different but related: I like the two tone paint jobs Porsche used on certain 924 Turbo/931’s. I thought about something like that for my Guards Red 924S but came to the conclusion it was a project too far.

But I will refresh that same black trim you’ve highlighted.

John

A Google search for 924s images will produce as many showing a different coloured rocker panel than not. The black will good on your car.

I like it. I personally would look into a local vinyl decal wrap business and talk to them about it. If you are patient, maybe you can source the material and do it yourself.

Black cars have a black rocker panel (ie, color matched).. so the factory "has done this before"

Personal taste comes into play.. Its not to my taste.. plus the factory black treatment tends to hide the cars bulk as mentioned but also hides stone chips better than the body color might.

Mine is guards red with a black rocker panel, similar to the lower picture. To my knowledge, they were all (87-88) like that. On a dark colored car, you may have to look twice to see it, but for instance, here's one: https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1988-porsche-924s-16/

Mine seems to be textured and slightly bent, so I'm not crazy about the look. Sure, it may reduce the perceived mass, but the 944 seems to have abandoned it.

The more I look your pictures, the more I like the red/no black look.
