944 Rear Wiper Not Working
I‘ve had time today to fiddle with the little things on my 1983 944, and I found the rear wiper doesn’t work. I’ve been searching the forum here and there, and I can’t find an answer to my question: Is the possible culprit simply the rear wiper toggle switch? Could it be that easy or is the culprit most likely the fuses or worst case, the motor?
And secondly, does the rear wiper require that the front wipers be on, or do they operate independently? Thanks👍 |

1) Rear wiper is completely independent of front wiper system.
2) Check for power and grounds at the motor assembly. The brown is ground, the green initiates the motor, and the black with green stripe powers the motor until the wipe cycle is complete.

I would do a wiper delete. They look better without and I believe they are part of the delamination
Of the hatch glass due to the weight and stress on the glass. |

Hmmm…is the wiper easy to remove? Is there a button to put in the hole? And what do I do with the wiring? I’d hate to snip them and cause problems.

There is a factory plug to put in place. The wiper assembly is easy to remove. You can use electrical tape to cover each of the terminals separately, then more electrical tape to tie them together without causing any problem.
https://only944.com/instructions/wdp/ only944 makes a nice light plug... https://only944.com/partscatalog/only/wiperdeleteplug/

Thanks 944 Ecology. That looks like an excellent solution.

mine was removed, he didn't like the look of it. I thought I'd put it back on there but when I went to do that I realized the lift hatch shocks are weak and the weight was going to make matters worse, I'll keep it of until I get them replaced.
the troubleshooting shouldn't be too hard , the first step in checking if there is power there or not is easy. If a meter is unfamiliar, just use a 12V light bulb. |

I was cleaning the interior of my 944 and popped out the ashtray just to clean (I don’t smoke). The console toggle switches in front of the ashtray, we’re easy to reach. One was for the rear wiper. I fiddled with all the wires, pulled and replaced, not thinking too much about it. After it all went back together, the rear wiper WORKED!! Yay!

I had to replace the wiper arm as the serrated portion of the arm that slips onto the wiper motor spindle was stripped out and worked intermittently. Also, Bosch makes a blade with the pin connector for those '83 944 rear wiper arms. My local Advance Auto had one delivered in about twelve hours.
