Dash Cover options/opinions
My 924 had a good quality plastic dash cover installed by the original owner to cover up the cracks, I actually like the looks better than the original, gives the dash a little dimension.
The only thing is that its a bit shiney and tends to reflect in the windshield. I'm thinking of getting a carpet dash cover, which do you guys think looks better, the carpet covers, or the moulded plastic covers?? Any brand that looks and fits the best?? Sence I dont use the center speaker, I would like a cover that completely covers this up. |

I had a 1981 924 with a moulded dash cover. It was a brown color, and looked okay. I think for sure they do look better then the carpet covers. I personally hate those things, they look just too cheesy. I would stick with a moulded one, then it looks like the normal dash and people wouldnt know that its cracked, but if you were to have a carpet one, everyone knows why the carpet is on your dash. I just personally prefer the molded ones.

i have one of the carpet covers on the 924 because i didn't like the glare off of the regular dash. eventually i am going to take the whole dash out and install a racing one.

Not to sound stupid, but I bought a dash cover on ebay and there are no installation directions. It is as easy as just pushing it on over top of the original, or is there a trick to it. Does anyone have installation directions available?

I installed my cover about 2 years ago. If I remember correctly, the first thing you do is THOROUGHLY clean the existing dash surface. Be sure to degrease it and make sure there are no traces of old armor-all or other silicone dressings. The manufacturer also recommended a light wet sanding of the dash. My kit came with a tube of adhesive. They recommend putting on dabs (around the size of a dime) all around the cover at about six inch intervals and no closer than three inches from the outside edges. Once it's in place, be sure to put something heavy on top. I used old phone books and Sears catalogs. Let the adhesive set for at least a day. My cover fit quite well except for the ends. It's since lifted off slighly from one end. It's not really that noticeable. My biggest gripe is the shiny surface that reflects terribly in the window. I never use dressing on the cover!

Well, I first went with a fabric cover (velour) and thought it looked really bad, so then I got a coverlay plastic cover.
When my 944 spent a week at the shop while I was away in july, the car sat outside and got real hot and the cover warped. I called the vendor where I got it from and they said it would be a warranty item (it was only a few months old) and replaced it for free. I've seen an advertisement in Excellence called the dash glove that is a leather cover for 924's and 944's of all types.
