89 Turbo replacing DME Harness, what else "while I'm in there"?
Finally getting around to working on my 89 turbo. The car runs and drives great, when it starts. The ref sensor wire on the DME harness is broken and causing intermittent issues and the whole harness is brittle and bad so I'm replacing it completely.
Looking at some options and the only one I find complete that is OEM looking is the Kroon harness. Anyone know if alternatives? I am also considering some NOS non turbo harness and replacing/adding the missing wires. I would prefer to not try to make one from scratch... But if someone here does, and makes them factory looking, let me know. I currently have the manifold off, and now that I have so much access to everything I'm going to give it a good clean and replace a lot because I can... I need to do timing belt and water pump because it has been 10+ years since the original owner had that done. And I might as well replace the front seal if it looks like its leaking. the steering rack appears to leak, so will rebuild that, along with the PS pump. The AOS is extremely dirty and it's in a really tight spot behind the Turbo, so I think its worth taking the turbo off to remove the AOS and replace it and seals/o-ring. With the Turbo off (haven't done that yet) do I send it in for rebuild? The car has about 120k miles and had an engine rebuild in the 90s by Andial. But the paperwork was lost and I don't know exactly what was changed. Assuming it's the 2.7L stroker kit. The manifold looks stock and the turbo has 951 number on the little plaque. I might do the top balance shaft since i have access and the ref sensor and hall sensor. Also replacing the knock sensor and temp sensor in the block. I think I'll also get as much of the hardware re-plated as I can. Replacing a few of the coolant hoses, some of them look feel soft and new, a lot of the vacuum lines and connectors looks new but will replace what I come across that feels old. replacing the fuel lines from the wheel well to the fuel rail and the little short one on the fuel rail. Alternator is newer What else is "worth doing" with all this access?
