Squeling from engine
Every once in a while, my engine makes a squeeling noise when i start moving. After i get over like 10-15 mph it stops. Sound seems to be comming from over the left front tire. Im pretty much new at the car thing (just sparked an interest) and was told by my father that its probably a belt. Anyone know what belt it maybe?

There are two belts on the 87. There are turn buckle type tighteners under the front of the engine.
Have to loosen the end bolts and then the jam nuts. I would suggest cleaning the threads with a carb or brake cleaner first. Use a good set of metric open/box end wrenches. P.S. Add the year of your car to your signiture line. Saves everyone a lot of guessing. |
Could be something nastier but most likely your fan/alternator belt is a bit loose. Try tightening it up a bit, no more than you need to though as too tight = shorter water pump etc. life

Water pump is driven from the back (smooth) side of the timing belt not the two exposed belts on the front of the engine.
The larger of the two belts is for the alternator and AC compressor. The smaller for the power steering. |
Is an S2 the same?
