DME/KLR swap question

Trying to solve no start/no spark/no tach bounce issue on my 86 turbo. Already replaced crank sensors. Water got into the interior via a leaky Saratoga top so I'm thinking the DME or KLR might be the issue. Borrowed a set from a friend but here's my concern. PO owner installed a Vitesse stage two kit so the chips on mine have been replaced with ones for the kit. Not sure what's in the borrowed units but pretty sure they are stock and I'm reluctant to open them up to check if I don't have to. My question is do I risk any damage to my engine or the borrowed control units if I try cranking it over with the borrowed computers? Just trying to be super careful. Thanks!

Should be no problem to use other boxes to check for crank/no start problems. Just don't run it at full boost and expect there to be no other problems.

Does the vitesse kit use a MAF or the stock AFM?

It might not use either - could be speed density (IAT + MAP sensor), but not sure.

Thanks for the help, it started on the stock DME! Now I just need to swap the chip over before I take her for a spin for the first time in two years. And yes the Vitesse kit comes with its own MAF.

And just so you know the sunroofs no matter glass or fiberglass or plexi all leak a tiny bit and the factory knew that so there’s 4 drains in the channel one in each corner that you have to clean out. Long baling wire with a tiny bit of water then work it down the drain tube. Also the tubes are old and brittle so they want to come off there metal portion at beginning also the drain tubes where they come out and drain the water into battery tray or rear smugglers corner trunks they aren’t in the right spot after 40 years etc etc…. Most likely why you have water getting in car. You probably need to clean your battery box water drain and the drivers side heater cowl drain that gets clogged up with leaves etc
